Alfonso Silvas is currently an assistant Track & Field and Cross Country Coach with the Corona Del Mar High School boys team. He also works with the Cal Coast Youth athletes, and you can find him at the CdM track during their training sessions.
‘Fonso’ started his running career at Santa Ana Valley High School where he ran Cross Country, played soccer and competed in Track & Field. He continued his running career at Orange Coast College, and yes, he hated the headwind on the final straightaway.
Alfonso’s motto for his runners is simple. “Hard Work & Dedication” beats talent, and if you’re dedicated you can reach your goals both on and off the track.
As his collegiate eligibility wound down he directed his efforts to helping younger runners achieve their goals, and started coaching Cross-County and Track & Field at Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana where he remained for five years. While working with his runners he got back into the local racing scene competing in 5K’s and Half-Marathons.
Alfonso’s motto for his runners is simple. “Hard Work & Dedication” beats talent, and if you’re dedicated you can reach your goals both on and off the track. His enthusiasm for running is contagious, and you can see that carrying over to the runners he coaches.
